A visit to the 18th century
20th August 2016
While I was in Brazil I finally had the opportunity to visit one of those big houses from the 18th century during slavery that now is owned by my relatives.
I love colonial style and the size of all things from that time. As I walked around there I dived into thoughts thinking of history, of slavery. The size of rooms, the darkness around with just stripes of lights coming in...where slaves were locked. How the coffee was made with some beans still around the cold floor. The size of the enormous woods they probably carried to build the house where I was in. The amount of labor, suffering and their life style is something that causes certain pain. Something that nowadays is hard to believe how possibly that could have existed.
Now what is left is history and some photos of the beautiful Portuguese style. I've decided to start off with a photo of one of the workers at the house, whose relatives were slaves themselves...
